About BHU Institute of Medical Science
Established in 1922 as part of the prestigious Banaras Hindu University, the Institute of Medical Science has grown to become one of Northern India's foremost healthcare institutions. Located across Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, we serve a diverse population with compassion, innovation, and excellence.
Our mission is to provide accessible, affordable, and advanced healthcare while fostering medical education and groundbreaking research. With over 950 beds, 1,500 healthcare professionals, and 75 specialized departments, we handle more than 500,000 patient visits annually.
The institute is recognized by the National Medical Commission (NMC) and accredited by the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals & Healthcare Providers (NABH). We maintain collaborations with international medical institutions including Johns Hopkins Medicine, Mayo Clinic, and the UK's National Health Service for knowledge exchange and advanced training.

1922
Foundation: Established as the Medical College of Banaras Hindu University by Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya, with initial focus on Ayurvedic and modern medicine integration.
1950
Expansion: Introduced postgraduate medical education programs and expanded hospital facilities to 300 beds.
1975
Modernization: Commissioned new surgical wings and diagnostic centers, becoming a referral center for Eastern Uttar Pradesh and Western Bihar.
2005
NABH Accreditation: Received accreditation from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals, recognizing quality standards.
2015
Uttarakhand Campus: Expanded services to Uttarakhand with a 300-bed specialty hospital in Haldwani.
2022
Centenary Celebration: Celebrated 100 years of service with the inauguration of the Advanced Cancer Care Center and Robotic Surgery Unit.
